With their catchy hooks and off-beat sense of humor, Australia’s Men at Work became a huge success in the ‘80s. One of its best known tracks, “Down Under” – the second single from 1981’s Business as Usual – became a number one hit on the U.S. Billboard charts in the year of its release. The Aussie band found similar success with 1983’s album Cargo, and their second single off the record, “Overkill.” Both tracks come to theRock Band Music Store on March 20th .

Finding his first success in the late ‘60s, guitarist Carlos Santana is nothing short of a legend. His band Santana returned to mainstream success in 1999 with their album,Supernatural, thanks in no small part to the hit single “Smooth.” A collaboration with Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas, the single rocketed to the top of worldwide charts, and won three Grammy Awards, including one for “Song of the Year.” This certified platinum single comes to Rock Band next week, with an optional Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™and PlayStation®3 system (March 20th, 2012):
Men at Work – “Down Under” O
Men at Work – “Overkill” O
Santana – “Smooth” O X
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system March 21st)
Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Platform Sells Nearly Twice as Many Units as Nintendo DS Sold in its First Year

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The era of glasses-free 3D gaming is turning one this month as Nintendo 3DS prepares to celebrate its first birthday. On March 27, 2011, video games and portable entertainment jumped into a new dimension in the U.S. and that story got richer throughout the year with record-breaking software titles such as Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 and entertainment options such as Netflix, Nintendo Video and the ability to record 3D movies. The platform enters its second year with a massive lineup of games, including the recently launched Resident Evil Revelations from CAPCOM, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games published by SEGA, TEKKEN 3D Prime Edition from NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., METAL GEAR SOLID Snake Eater 3D from Konami Digital Entertainment and the upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising and Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir from Nintendo.

“Nintendo 3DS closes its first year with a lengthy list of accomplishments but we’re still just scratching the surface,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “With a massive lineup of first- and third-party games and more on the way, a budding library of entertainment options and an engaged and growing installed base, Nintendo 3DS has an incredibly bright future. We’re just getting started but this platform is built for the long haul.”

Some of the milestones achieved by Nintendo 3DS in its first year include:

Konno on Mario Kart character and track selection, Retro’s support, innovation leading to change
March 5th, 2012 Posted in 3DS, GameCube, General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay, Wii | 5 Comments »
Mario Kart producer Hideki Konno was recently asked a series of questions about the franchise in an interview with IGN. Konno discussed how the roster and tracks are considered, making sure its still accessible when adding in new features, how and why Retro was brought in for Mario Kart 7′s development (though this was previously discussed in Iwata Asks), and more.

In terms of specific, interesting content divulged by Mario Kart’s head honcho, Konno stated that the team thought about adding in Wiggler for Mario Kart Wii, expressed uncertainty about the return of character specific abilities from Mario Kart: Double Dash, and how “the need to significantly change the Mario Kart series will arise if an innovation is developed that will enable more people to enjoy Mario Kart.”

All of Konno’s remarks can be found after the break.

Rumor: Next issue of Nintendo Gamer to feature “an exclusive first-look at Assassin’s Creed III Wii U”
March 5th, 2012 Posted in Posted by Valay, Rumors, Wii U | 1 Comment »
Nintendo Gamer claims that they’ll have “an exclusive first-look at Assassin’s Creed III Wii U” in its next issue.

But, here’s the thing. The magazine’s previews tend to be hit or miss, and for all we know, this could be nothing more than a roundup of already-provided information. Nintendo also seems to be keeping third-parties quiet about their projects – that’s something else to to keep in mind.

In any case, here’s what the magazine wrote earlier today:

“…you’ll want to check out issue 74 of Nintendo Gamer magazine, which has an exclusive first-look at Assassin’s Creed III Wii U. We’re the only Nintendo magazine in the world to see the game, so you won’t be able to read about it anywhere else. The magazine is on sale 23 March but we’ll have a reminder nearer the time so don’t worry about whipping out your diary to mark that date.”

Rock Band Music Store Update 3/6

Cambridge, Mass. – March 2nd, 2012 – Harmonix today announced that singles from Everclear, Good Charlotte, and Mastodon are headed to the Rock Band™ Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™.

Rock Band provides the deepest and best selection of artists, songs and albums through the Rock Band music platform, which features more than 1400 artists and more than 3,500* tracks via disc and download purchase (complete list of tracks atwww.rockband.com/songs). Rock Band’s gigantic music library dwarfs that of any other rhythm video game on the market. More than 100 million songs have been sold through the Rock Band Music Store since its launch on Nov. 20, 2007.

Rock Band DLC Additions for Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii™

Portland, Oregon rock band Everclear had their first hit with “Santa Monica,” the fourth track off of 1995’s Sparkle and Fade. The track, which found radio popularity despite never officially being released as a single, comes to the Rock Band Music Store complete with a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade.

“The Anthem,” Good Charlotte’s second single off of their second album, 2002’s The Young and the Hopeless, is also on its way to the Music Store. The catchy, uptempo track was a hit for Good Charlotte, and quickly climbed the charts worldwide.

Since their formation in 2000, Mastodon has won over metal fans and critics with their dense, monstrous sound and complex compositions. In 2011, the band released The Hunter, featuring the Grammy nominated track “Curl of the Burl,” which rounds out a trio of singles slated to hit the Rock Band Music Store on March 6th.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™and PlayStation®3 system (March 6th, 2012):

Everclear – “Santa Monica” X
Good Charlotte – “The Anthem”
Mastodon – “Curl of the Burl”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system March 7th)

Tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points™/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

*Available on-disc, via download and disc export. Internet connection and export key purchase required. Wii™ Shop Channel has more than 1,500 song tracks available for purchase on the Rock Band platform on-disc, via song import, and download. Not applicable to Nintendo DS™.
